Activists Arise!

The February 19th edition of the Wall Street Journal featured an article called the The Rise of the Reluctant Activist. A fascinating read that talked about long-term shareholders after years of supporting a company and seeing its underperformance decided to stop their long-suffering and demanded change.

Activist Insight, an online service that tracks investor activists and the nearly 600 companies that fall short, claims 2016 is going to be a “fascinating year in which all shareholders are expected to play a greater role in corporate strategy and the financial ecosystem will continue to adapt to their presence.”

If you have read any of one of my blogs, you know that this article makes me happy. And then it got me dreaming. Dreaming about our social sector. So many nonprofits desperately need reluctant activists; investors who need to speak up and to hold leaders, board members and staff accountable.

Is there anyone else out there that is tired of poverty being an issue?  There is so much abundance in our great country, there shouldn’t be any poverty.  Is there anyone else out there shocked that we have yet to find a cure for cancer? Really?

Thank God for reluctant activists. Billions are at stake. Is there anyone out there who is willing to be a reluctant activist to your local nonprofit?  Millions are at stake!
